What holds an offshore wind jacket together for 25 years?
More than a kilometer of welded seams, all exposed to complex fatigue loads in a harsh subsea environment. Every one of those welds has to be right, and it has to be provable.
This is where non-destructive testing (NDT) comes in. Different NDT methods can be used to identify defects without damaging the material, including:
➡️ Ultrasonic Testing (UT) – detecting internal defects
➡️ Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) – precise weld inspection
➡️ Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) – detecting surface and near-surface
defects
Together, these methods help catch problems before a structure ever leaves the fabrication yard.
