Description
During installation work, a mechanical damage occurred to a borehole of a "Mega Monopile" flange, an offshore foundation element. To analyze the damage, an assessment was conducted to determine the location and extent of the damage.
Subsequently, a repair and inspection plan was developed by a Level III NDT engineer and a welding engineer. To ensure the proper execution of the inspections, testing instructions were prepared by the Level III NDT engineer. These instructions included visual testing (VT) and surface crack testing (Magnetic Particle Testing – MT).
Within 48 hours, a VT/MT inspector was dispatched to the site. The inspections were carried out offshore.
Finally, a detailed documentation of the damage was compiled, encompassing all relevant information regarding the location, extent, and the results of the VT and MT inspections. This documentation serves as the basis for further decisions concerning repair measures and the future use of the affected flange.
