Description
During installation work, mechanical damage occurred to a borehole of a "Mega Monopile" flange, an offshore foundation element. In order to analyze the damage caused, a damage survey was carried out, The location and extent of the damage were determined.
A repair and inspection plan was then prepared, developed by an NDT Level III engineer and a welding engineer. In order to ensure that the inspections were carried out properly, inspection instructions were were prepared by an NDT Level III engineer. These test instructions included Visual Testing (VT) and Surface Crack Testing (Magnetic Particle Testing - MT).
A VT/MT inspector was dispatched to the site within 48 hours. The tests were performed offshore.
Finally, detailed documentation of the damage was prepared, containing all relevant information on the location, scope and results of the VT and MT tests. This documentation serves as a basis for further decisions regarding the repair measures and the future use of the affected flange.
